First Rock Show! (Jan 19)

When we finally left the bar and headed home Lucas declared, “If I ever go to another rock show… that will always be the awesome-est!”

On Friday night Lucas attended his first ever rock show. To honor the 50th anniversary of the release of the album Led Zeppelin I, a bar in our neighborhood had a cover band play the album in its entirety… and it was just our luck that they had an early evening, all-ages show that kids could attend.

When Lucas was starting to get into rock music last summer, Led Zeppelin was his first love. So the thought of “getting the Led out” with a real live band was super exciting. And needless to say, the show did not disappoint.

The band consisted of a number of local musicians, including Sarah Rudinoff, an actor and singer who wrote and produced the show These Streets about women in the grunge era (which Krista and I saw when it first came out.) The other show-stopper was Kathy Moore, who played some rippin’ lead guitar (Lucas declared it “face melting” on numerous occasions — see her solo on Communications Breakdown below). The dudes in the rhythm section were pretty good too.The band was on fire and as the wound down the final, bluesy song from the album and I told Lucas to watch out for an encore… little did I know that they’d go on to play the entire Led Zeppelin II album as that encore! We stayed for the whole thing and it just kept getting better. We had good seats to begin with, but by the end Lucas was right up front taking it all in as adults head-banged around him.

When we finally left the bar and headed home Lucas declared, “If I ever go to another rock show… that will always be the awesome-est!”
